M&T, NATIONWIDE HOMES, AND EXTREME MAKEOVER!
Nationwide Homes was asked by ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition to take on the challenge of building a house in a week for a very deserving family. The answer was yes! Nationwide is the first modular builder to build a home for this national television show.
WHY WE CHOSE TO GET INVOLVED
Nationwide Homes and M&T Investment Builders is committed to helping communities. We make a difference by providing dream homes for families. When Nationwide got the call that Extreme Makeover was going to help a deserving family, but needed a great home fast, we knew we could help them. This particular home (pictured above) was built in Nationwide’s Martinsville, Virginia building center.
WHAT IS EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION
Put together one very run-down house, a deserving family, several opinionated designers, seven days and what do you get? The answer is – “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” The show has won two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Program, plus the series has won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Reality Show/Makeover and the Family Television Award for Best Alternative/Reality Program.
WHO IS THE FAMILY?
On February 21, 2010, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition traveled to Pine Mountain Valley, Georgia, to meet Jeremy and Jennifer Williams, whose son Jacob was diagnosed with Spina Bifida before he was born. Then, several years after Jacob’s birth, Jeremy was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Now, the home Jeremy and Jennifer bought 13 years ago was falling apart around them. In addition to mounting home repairs, the home was too small to accommodate two disabled family members. In just seven days, team leader Ty Pennington, the design team, Nationwide Homes, M&T Investment Builders, and the entire community came together to build Jeremy, 38, Jennifer, 38, Josie, 8, and Jacob, 6, a brand new home.
HOW WAS M&T INVESTMENT BUILDERS INVOLVED?
The real question is: How WASN'T M&T involved? Owner Fred McIlvain and sons Joel McIlvain and Mike Sherman arrived the weekend of the 'door knock' and Braveheart March. From there, the M&T crew helped throughout the whole process, from getting the foundation ready for each modular unit, to hanging drywall, putting in hardwood flooring, finishing marriage walls, even building a gate for a fence! Throw in a little painting, a little sawing and drilling
and you have three tired men at the end of the week. It was quite rewarding, putting in so much hard work for such a deserving family.
